Airport scoops Company of the Year award

The region’s largest airport fought off stiff competition to land the coveted prize in a ceremony held at the Marriott Hotel at Gosforth Park.

Dave Laws, chief executive of Newcastle International, said:

“This prestigious award caps an extremely successful year for the airport. Passenger numbers rose to a record 5.7 million in 2007 and we celebrated a number of major achievements, including securing the deal with Emirates Airline to provide the region’s first ever long-haul scheduled flights to Dubai, and the opening of our new £8.2 million air traffic control tower.

“Last night’s award is testimony to the dedication and commitment of every member of the airport team and we are extremely proud of their efforts. It is also important to recognise the crucial part played by our business partners at the airport, including the many airlines, handling agents, caterers and retailers based here, for their contribution in helping us to win this award.”

Newcastle International Airport will now go on to the grand final of the North East Business Awards in May. These awards are run by The Journal and its Teesside-based sister paper the Evening Gazette.
