General Fire Safety Course

The General Fire Safety Course is designed to provide the delegate with knowledge and understanding of what to do in the event of a fire. It also allows the delegate the opportunity to use a fire extinguisher and fire blanket on live fire scenarios.

  • Course overview

The course material and handouts are used in conjunction with current workplace fire safety legislation and guidance. Delegate understanding is not assessed.

  • Aim

To provide delegates with a greater awareness of the threat posed by fire to people, property and business continuity.

Courses are available throughout the year and on request.

  • Location

Either at the academies premises or on your own site. (Subject to site survey) 

  • Duration

Three - four hours (Dependent on delegate No’s)

- Know their fire safety duties under the law
- Be able to recognise the importance of effective evacuation
- Know how to prevent fire and limit fire spread
- Be able to identify the requirements of an effective fire action plan

None. Although ideally delegates should have a basic understanding of workplace safety.

- The location of fire points within the building
- The location of external assembly points
- Arrangements for calling the fire service
- Location of escape routes - (Building Familiarisation)
- The importance of fire doors in restricting fire spread
- Operation of escape route doors
- Evacuation procedures – (Emergency site procedures)
- The importance of general fire precautions and good housekeeping - (Fire Prevention).
- Practical use of first aid fire fighting equipment – (Live fire scenarios)
- Completion of training records
