Newcastle International have developed an air quality strategy which details how the Airport Company will monitor, assess and predict the impact of operations on the local air quality.
Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2) monitoring is carried out using diffusion tube analysis, the tubes are located at twenty two locations around the Airport site and sent to Newcastle City Council for analysis. The Airport Company are part of the UK Nitrogen Dioxide diffusion tube network which provides a nation-wide picture of concentrations of this important traffic-related pollutant.
Within the Environmental Appraisal, produced to support the Masterplan document, an emissions inventory and dispersion model exercise was carried out to assess the impact of Airport operations on air quality around the site. Within the Masterplan period air quality is not anticipated to exceed to set standards.
